Jonathan, I just received the PianoDisc diskette manager this week,
from Giebler Enterprises. You're right, they don't seem to respond to
email at all, but they do answer the phone. I called to confirm the
fax number, and then I faxed them my credit card. It took a couple
weeks to get the software.
Don't buy from Musicmansion. I tried that back in June, and they
emailed me some software that was the wrong stuff. I complained and
asked them to just send me the floppy disk, and they never replied, and
now ignore my emails. I'm still trying to get my $15 back. Since they
are advertising $15, compared to $55 by Giebler, I suspect they just
don't know what it is and don't have it. The only way I know of to get
the software is to call Giebler.
I was poking around here looking for an answer to a question about
using this software. I've had the Yamaha diskette manager for several
years, and I've converted a lot of Yamaha diskettes into MIDI, and then
from MIDI into WAV to put on CD using Mark Fontana's excellent
software. The Yamaha diskette manager works pretty flawlessly.
The thing that surprised me about the Giebler PianoDisc diskette manager
is that, when I try to convert PianoDisc to MIDI, it always asks me to
provide tempo and time signature, and always defaults to 120 bpm and
4/4. Is this normal? Is there no way to get this info from the
PianoDisc files?

[ It sounds like the PianoDisc file doesn't include the tempo
[ information needed for a MIDI file, as though all files are
[ created to be played at the same samples per second, much like
[ Pianocorder data files. Can anybody confirm this? -- Robbie
