Source of Tools for Player Piano Restoration
By Bill Maguire
For those subscribers who don't know, I make and sell tools for player
piano restorations. I have a tool that punches the center holes in
valve facings (3 at a time) quickly and accurately. This tool is also
ideal for punching small holes in leather gaskets. I've used it for
installing snaps and pressing key leads and simplex collars. It is
better in every way than pliers type tools like rotary punches.
I sell a dial indicator stand that helps measure valve travel. It is
made out of 3/8" steel and has 3 adjustable machine screw legs. The
dial indicator shaft is inserted through a hole and is held in place
with a nylon screw. This system works well with virtually all valve
board type stacks.
These tools were featured as articles in AMICA bulletins March/April
1994 and the other appeared in 1994 as well. Several nationally well
known restorers have purchased and use these tools. Mark Haas
demonstrates these tools at PTG conventions and seminars.
I also sell a great inexpensive quality adjustable straight edge system
for regulating grand actions at the bench. Finer regulation can be
done later at the piano.
