Dear MMDs, the next auction of mechanical music in Chartres (France,
one hour from Paris, 2 specialized auctions per year, in May and
December) will take place on Sunday afternoon, Dec 5th, starting at
1.30 p.m. 300 lots of mechanical music, automatas, fairground art and
phonos. Among the highlights :
- A rare and large 48 keys Meloton Gavioli, repaired ca 1900 by
Gasparini, with 4 cylinders.
- A good Lecoultre 4 tunes 33 cm cyl. Mandoline effect (up to 7 teeth
per note), playing Norma, Favorite, etc.
- A good "boite de gare" (station) musical box with 3 dancing dolls, in
original condition
- An upright 48.5 cm Symphonion
- Several musical clock pictures, and various musical boxes
- Many musical novelties
- ca 25 lots of postcards related to barrel organs or phonos
- Several serinettes, "orgue de salon", organettes (a good 36 keys
Ariston), mechanical pianos (some Spanish), etc.
Amidst the ca 30 Automata :
- a "Pierrot ecrivain" by Vichy
- A Pierrot with the moon, by Vichy
- a good sand activated automaton picture with 2 monkeys playing the
violin
More than 100 lots about phonographs. Those interested in the French
crooner Johnny Halliday may get ca 400 records by him in various
languages !
For those interested in dolls, there is a large auction the previous
day, Saturday Dec 4th, with more than 500 lots.
