Player Action In Spector Piano
By Nevin Engle
Several months ago I asked if anyone knew what kind of player was
in a Spector piano. I have the unit now and will describe the valve
system and maybe someone can identify it.
It is a 3-tier stack with valves in a valve chest which operate
horizontally. The wooden valve slides on a metal pin. In the chest
is a wooden block for each valve which has a seat for the valve and
behind it a zephyr-skin pouch. The block has a bleed cup in it.
Tubing goes from this block to a nipple in the top of the chest.
The front of the valve has a wooden stem that sticks through the
seat hole and extends toward the pouch.
Is this description clear enough to be identified? Currently the
Spector is on John Tuttle's list as unidentified. With your help
maybe we can change that.
