Recently I inherited a coin-operated music box, with only one
(defective) disc. Unfortunately, I am not very familiar with music
boxes and I don't know the maker's name, etc. (It seems marked only
with a S/N 3579.) I wonder if anywhere in cyberspace is a helpful,
knowing person able to assist me in identifying the music box, this
seeming to be the first step in trying to get hold of at least
a single complete disc/tube.
The music box can be described as upright, in an oak cabinet. The
diameter of the disc is 43.5 cm [17-1/8 inch] and it has 120 punched
holes at the rim. My disc is marked 'Nun danken alle Gut - Choral -
No. 169'.
Comb A (double with 2 x 60 tones) is 13.4 cm and comb B (8 chime tubes)
is 1.7 cm, total 15.1 cm.
I will gladly mail a photo of the inside parts and the disc and will
appreciate very, very much if anybody can give me a hint about the
possible identity of the box (and maybe an address where supplementary
discs may be available).
The box has been stored in an attic for many years but seems, except
for one chime tube, to be working (though a little slow, maybe due
to lack of lubrication). But several teeth are missing on the disc
so I really would like to buy at least one replacement disc, which,
however, seems difficult without even knowing what to search for.
Any assistance will be very much appreciated.
Greetings from Copenhagen,
Birger Olsen
