I am seeking information on the ownership or control of the copyright
of the book, "The Complete Catalog of Ampico Reproducing Piano Rolls,"
by Elaine Obenchain. I have attempted to run down several what
appeared to be very good leads, and all have ended in dead ends.
It is my considered opinion that this is a book that needs to be
republished. However I do not believe that the original copyright has
run out and I certainly don't wish to get involved in a copyright
infringement suit.
With current scanner and computer technology, this book could be
reprinted at a reasonable figure. There are, however, many
considerations: the copyright and, on the economic side, how much
actual demand is there for this book? Feedback on this topic would
be appreciated.
Thanks, Tom Hutchinson
[ I have a flat-bed scanner and an OCR program that work very well
[ normally, but my attempts to recover the text of the Obenchain
[ rollography were marginal quality, at best, because the typewriter
[ 'font' is difficult to recognize accurately. Lots of corrections
[ were needed on the two pages I tried, followed by mind-numbing
[ proof reading and checking. I think it would be better to
[ reprint from the original printing plates if possible. -- Robbie
