Player Piano At Thrift Store
By Joyce Brite
How to ruin a good player piano
I was at a thrift store yesterday, and while I was perusing some items
I heard the unmistakable sound of a piano waft over from another part
of the store. Some curious kids were banging on the piano as kids are
wont to do. Naturally I had to go check out the piano.
It was an Everett upright, the case not too bad for its age. A quick
glance told me it was a player piano. Much of the pneumatic parts in
the lower section were still there but the stack had been removed. The
piano had most of its original ivory keys with a few missing. However,
a well-meaning person had pasted labels 'ABCDEFG' on all the keys.
I played a few bars of a song on the piano. It was such a shame to see
these alterations because the piano had a lovely tone. I would have
loved to hear a roll on this piano.
