Dear Robbie, It seems like years, but for the last few months I have
been building parts that will someday be assembled to create my first
construction project, a Wurlitzer 104/105. (Restorations not included).
I began today to write to MMD, to see if I could procure an original
Trumpet pipe, which would make my understanding of the pipe easier.
Of course, like everything else I do, I got side tracked reading the
MMD Archives for almost 3 hours. I came across an article by Marc
Elbasani in 010728 MMDigest about "Simplified Reed Pipe Construction".
Now, I know it's not original, neither will the MIDI I put in along
with the roll frame and blower instead of bellows, but have any of the
readers built these simplified pipes and compared them to the sound of
the original pipes?
I intend on trying to build one, but would like to purchase an original
pipe to compare. If anyone has any old pipes for the Wurlitzers,
I would be interested in purchasing them. Also, I am interested in any
responses or advice on Pipe building. I have read just about everything
available on building pipes. So, as well as anxious, I am also
overwhelmed with information.
Feel free to edit my letter any way you chose, or save it for one of
those slow days. Also, every morning I used to read the daily newspaper
while drinking my tea at work. That newspaper is no longer purchased
and MMD is now my morning read. So, it is only fair that the $200.00
I spent on a newspaper is now sent to you. You will be receiving that
donation this week. Thank you for the enjoyment. I no longer spend my
day complaining about the local politicians.

[ Thanks for your forthcoming contribution, Howard, and I'm pleased
[ to learn that MMDigest accompanies your morning tea. Me, in the
[ morning I sip strong coffee while I discard the junk email sent
[ overnight to rolls@foxtail.com; less than 2% is valid. I grow punchy
[ while trying not to delete valid messages with no subject, or simply
[ "a question for you". Ah, such is life nowadays. ;-) -- Robbie
