Dear MMDrs: In 2001 the Musical Box Society International (MBSI)
decided to make a professional quality video that would present the
field of mechanical music in such a way as to both educate and entertain
the viewer and to leave him or her with the desire to learn more about
the hobby.
I am pleased to announce that the film, Marvels of Mechanical Music,
has been completed and is available both as a DVD and on VHS tape.
The film, directed and edited by Hayden Grooms, an MBSI member and
professional video maker/editor, documents the origins of mechanical
music instruments, tells how they are collected today and why they are
an important part of history before the advent of recorded music.
With a running time of approximately 50 minutes and accompanied by an
8-page booklet describing the history and lore of mechanical music, you
will see many ingenious machines, learn about their clever mechanisms
and listen to live musical performances as they were heard much more
than 100 years ago.
Professionally filmed in HD video format, the fine details of the
machines and the music they produce are captured in stunning high
definition clarity. For the first time, you will have the opportunity
to experience a myriad of these amazing devices that in large part,
exist only in private collections.
If you would like to purchase either a DVD or a VHS copy, the details
