I've just returned from the Great Dorset Steam Fair, and once again it
was a fabulous event. Anyone interested in mechanical music, steam, or
having a good time really ought to plan to attend. This was my third
time (the first in 1979 and the second in 2001), and it won't be my
last. The magnitude of the event is impossible to describe in words,
and the pictures barely do justice.
The range of organs -- from the very largest to the John Smith 20er
busker organ being constructed in the amateur organ builders tent --
boggled my mind, and to my ears they sounded great. Apparently this
year there were fewer organs invited than in the past, but the numbers
and variety were still astonishing. Two days was not enough to see
everything, much less spend time talking with all the great folks
there.
I took quite a few pictures, some of which can be seen on my web site
at the following address:

or just go to www.band-organ.com and follow the link. Enjoy, and be
inspired to go next year! (I have no affiliation of any kind with the
GDSF, it's sponsors, or organizers -- I'm just a happy attendee)
Cheers!
