I'm trying to get a recently-acquired Link in operating order, and one
of the more perplexing problems is that someone removed the original
coin accumulator and substituted a mess of relays and bare wire
suitable for Boris Karloff.
The original chute is laying in the bottom of the unit, but a previous
owner replaced the coin chute with one of those coin-operated washing
machine quarter slides. I think I can improvise the case/veneer repair
and the fabrication of a new coin entry, but I don't know what to do
beyond that point. Can anyone describe and/or point me to a photo of
a suitable Link 2E coin accumulator? Better still, does anyone have
one sitting around?
Also, while everyone is thinking about Links, the pump, vacuum
regulator and the associated valves were full of (I presume) lead
flakes from deteriorating fittings, and so I have these units apart
to rebuild. I noticed that the pouches were rather irregularly cut
squares of thin rubberized cloth, doubtless a repair job. But what
I really wonder about is that one of the valves has a lead disc tacked
to it, apparently to add weight to it. I would guess that this is
a home-brew fix to improve the performance of the valve (the valve
controls the 'loud' function of the unit by introducing atmosphere to
a small bellows that biases the spill valve to a lower pressure based
on the 'soft' function (or that's my guess so far).
Is there any chance that this lead disc is original or necessary if the
pouch/valve is rebuilt properly? Any tips about valve travel for these
particular valves?
Thanks for any helpful suggestions!
