The black gummed Holland tape is still available from Gane Brothers
and Lane, suppliers of bookbinding supplies and equipment:
Gane Brothers and Lane
1400 Greenleaf
Elk Grove, IL 60007
tel.: 1-323-582-8331
(This is a Los Angeles phone number that transfers to Elk Grove.)
The tabs are 2-3/4 inches long by 1-7/8 inches wide. The black is
available in 2-inch width only which makes for a wasteful die cut.
The 3-inch tape which, would allow a more economical die cut, is not
available in black but comes in white and brown.
One roll, 2 inches by 200 yards, black, costs $155.00. The price break
is at three rolls which is $77.50 per roll ($232.50 plus shipping for
600 yards).
I have not purchased a cutting die in 10 years so I do not know the
cost of one today but it should not be a great deal for such a small
die. You would also need access to a small printing press to do the
cutting, or get a quote from a die cutter for running the job.
Perhaps your original supplier could still make them if you provided
the gummed Holland tape. I can send a sample from a roll I have left
if you would like to see it.
