Following Ed Chaban's latest posting I feel I have to support Jurgen
Goering's recent posting. Getting good rolls for your instrument is
easy. You just need to keep your eyes and ears open. I gave Thomas
Jansen a plug in my MMD posting of 2003.06.26, and I will give him
another plug now.
I have just received another batch of 25 rolls for my Poppers
orchestrion. They are really top quality, spooled onto purpose moulded
spools, and supplied in strong boxes. And all this for only 40 Euros
each, for rolls that are up to 40m long. The first batch I ordered
took six months to come and this latest batch less than one. For such
rolls I would normally expect to wait up to a year from any normal
supplier, so you can see that Thomas is providing a world beating
service.
I have had no trouble finding new piano rolls to suit my musical
tastes. I have bought from Bob Billings, Frank Himpsl, Bob DeLand,
John Farrell, Tim Baxter, Dave Miner, Ed Gaida and Karl Ellison. All
have provided an excellent service with top quality rolls at reasonable
prices. Admittedly, I have bought very few new classical rolls, but
these are easily found through postal and Email auctions. We have two
regular postal auctions here in GB and there are many on the Net.
Please support our roll producers. Buy their rolls, and lend them more
to scan and add to their lists.
Best wishes,
Nicholas Simons, GB
