Source of Hot Hide Glue
By Robert Ridgeway

The company that manufactures the finest quality hot hide glue that
we have ever used is

  Milligan & Higgins
  P.O. Box 506
  Johnstown, NY 12095
  tel.: 1-518-762-4638

Important: Request the 2X-High Clarity glue -- it is more refined and
does a superior job of gluing. We purchase it in 50-pound fiber drums.
I cannot recall the most recent price but with the shipping and the
cost of the drum it is still under $200. If you don't need that much
(that is their minimum) you should arrange for several of you to go
together and purchase a drum and divide it up among yourselves.

We have been using it for all our restoration projects for several
years and have shared samples with other restorers and they have all
praised its strength and ease of application. Like most shops we only
prepare a small batch for projects to keep it fresh (and keep the
unused made-up portions in the shop refrigerator when not needed) but
have discovered when we have inadvertently left a batch in the pot for
days it still remains fresh and not rancid.

I cannot praise the quality of this company's product too highly.
Once you use Milligan & Higgins glue you will never use the products
of anyone else, I feel certain. But remember to specify the 2X-High
Clarity hide glue.

Sincerely,
Robert Ridgeway, Curator
