A close friend in British Columbia recently acquired an upright Welte
in original condition, astonishingly still sorta working rather well.
He tells me he has determined that a significant random jerkiness in
the wind motor appears to be the consequence of somebody oiling it back
in antiquity.
In some 40+ years in this delightful avocation, I've never encountered
this condition. Can anybody shed any light on possible salvage action
to clean up the slide faces of this 5-cell wind motor? Or is he dead
in the water?
In the event that his wind motor is beyond salvage, does anybody out
there have a spare Welte-Licensee wind motor they would consider
parting with? Is there merit in attempting to substitute a
conventional 88-note wind motor recovered from a player piano?
Thoughts of others?
