I've had great luck learning from reading the MMDigest as it comes
by email, and in the MMD Archives, but I'm faced with a problem that
I haven't seen discussed much, unless I missed it.
I have recently acquired a Link 2E that was described as 'original'
but still playing. For reasons that amount to a long story, I wasn't
able to inspect the Link before buying but looked at many photos of
different areas of the instrument that looked pretty good to me.
Anyway, I have the Link in my possession now, and it doesn't play,
but even more interesting, there are quite a few not-so-subtle signs
of substantial modification: screw holes with no screws, tubing
plugged with golf tees, etc. I don't think I have much choice but
to carefully reverse-engineer the thing to figure out what is supposed
to be happening and why it's not, but before getting in over my head,
I wondered if anyone has seen detailed pictures of a properly assembled
Link 2E, and/or tubing diagrams, books with advice for the lovelorn
Link owner, etc., (that I might have access to).
Just so I won't appear to be a whiner, the Link looks pretty nice,
and I think I got an okay deal, so I'm optimistic. Besides, what
better to invest time and money in, right?
I tend to believe that the unit was playing before it was shipped,
and it's possible that I will stumble across a minor problem causing
my Link's silence, but Ed Link knew how to pack a lot into a small
space so poking around is difficult. I don't want to tear into it
without the best background info I can get, hence my request.
Thanks in advance for any helpful suggestions.
