Rebuilding the Aeolian Orchestrelle
By Kim Bunker

Hi all, Kim Bunker here from http://www.playerpianos.com/ We have been
restoring all types Aeolian Orchestrelle's for nearly 30 years and have
been documenting as we go on nearly all of them. What our goal in
writing any kind of a manual or book is about will be based on every
model Orchestrelle that Aeolian built. This project has been on our
drawing board for a long time.

I've looked at the electronic book by Mr. Vance and I must say it is
very well written. When he began his project on the Model W restoration
we were already finished with two others, the Model Y and the Model V;
we documented everything then.

I still feel that in order to write about this subject you must have
as much knowledge of the Orchestrelle as possible; only then can a
definitive book be published. Aeolian produced several models over
several years and many changes were made with in each model line.

One example I'll share with you all about the Model Y -- it had several
modifications throughout the time it was manufactured from 1898 till
1906. The same goes for the Model A built from 1900 to 1910, the
'Francis the First', the Model S, the W, the XY, etc. As with every
manufacturer of any kind of musical instrument, modifications were a
large part of growing; that's why companies produced a particular model
for so long.

I still maintain that when writing about something as important as
a rebuilders guide, it's best to have as much information of the
manufacturer's product as possible and if not, investigate as many
of that model as you can and supply that information as well. The
information you provide will help troubleshoot any problem that can
arise during the rebuilding process.

Thanks for now
Sincerely yours
Kim Bunker
