Sir, I realize the situation of collectors passing away. We all do
at some point...
But what made me write was the fact that I am 38 years old and an avid
collector of mechanical musical machines. When I was much younger
I had about 6 player pianos that I restored to playing condition.
I sold them all for quick cash. Some of the ones that I restored still
play very well. I have been doing this passion of mine since I was 16.
I used to move pianos and player pianos all by myself in my Toyota
pickup truck. Just a bit of small history here. <ha ha!>
Anyway, just because you don't see a lot of youngsters talking on MMD,
boasting that they have a collection of mechanical music machines, that
doesn't mean that we aren't collecting them. My ultimate goal is to
either build a carousel band organ _or_ to purchase one that is in dire
need of restoration. I usually take the players that other people
don't want to restore and I restore them, or I will convert a piano or
organ into a player.
My ex used to say to me, "No more players!" Now you see why I have an
"ex"! <ha ha!> If I had the space right now I would have dozens of
players in my place, but since I live in a trailer home I can only have
one console player right now. I am looking into getting a Weber piano
that will be for sale after its restored.
Sincerely,
Jeff Bridges
