The O-Roll to MIDI Project
After sending countless emails and posting on various web boards, it
appears that no one is scanning O-rolls or has MIDI files of O-rolls
(except for Ragtime Automated Music who charges $5 per song!).
Therefore I propose the following as a cooperative project and service
to anyone interested:
1. I will manufacture an O-roll scanner.
2. I will scan all of my O-rolls and convert them to MIDI files.
3. I will have a web page where the MIDI files can be downloaded.
4. The database will grow as people either loan me their O-rolls to
scan, I purchase more O-rolls, or we find anyone that may have MIDI
files of O-rolls already.
5. I would propose that only those people who have loaned O-rolls
for scanning, or contributed MIDI files would be allowed access to the
web page. That will keep the O-roll MIDI database growing and of course
anyone who contributes would have full access to the files. I suppose
it could be set up to charge a fee to those who don't want to loan
their rolls for scanning, but we'll think about that later.
As for the loaning of rolls, the person loaning the rolls can ship
them to me on their dime, I'll get them scanned and converted within
a week, and I'll pay for the shipping back to the owner. Then, of
course, the owner would have access to the full database, of not only
his/her own rolls, but all the others already in the database.
This will probably take me a few months to get up and going on, since
I still have to build the scanner, but if there is enough interest
I will do it.
Anyone who would be interested in being part of this project, through
loaning O-rolls, scanning O-rolls, contributing MIDI files of O-rolls,
or otherwise, please email me <cmorgan@vintagegamestore.com>.
Lets see if we can make a collaborative project like this work for the
benefit of us all.
