Greetings, I recently acquired some remarkable Capitol "A" blues rolls
which have that exciting, toe-tapping "Capitol Sound" I greatly admire
and love. The captivating sounds on A-2085 resemble the style of
Chicago pianist Clarence Johnson, but I would like to know the exact
composer(s), date and artist of each composition, if possible.
I don't have a Coinola or anything like that to hear the rolls,
although I enjoy them nonetheless on my 65-note Autopiano. As I pump
the rolls, I try to imitate the mandolin and xylophone (or pipes)
effects to the best of my ability by "reading" the side perforations.
Of course, I follow the sustaining pedal and expression coding as well.
It is interesting that a great deal of the xylophone and mandolin
effects don't appear to match the rhythm, and seem to enter at unusual
places in the music -- sometimes in the middle of an end cadence!
Anyhow, I like these so much I am seeking more Capitol "A" blues rolls.
I would especially like to get A-2446, which I heard on a Chicago
Electric in a local pizza parlor a number of years ago.
Musically,
