Hi, I'm trying to help update the listings in the "Museum and
Collections" section of the MBSI directory. So I called all the
listings in the Eastern United States (my area) to confirm their
information (okay, I didn't call the big ones that are obviously
still there). I'll list the changes and updates that I found below.
But I need your help!
Is there a place that you know about that has some mechanical musical
instruments that would be of interest to MMDers or MBSI members? If
so, please send me an e-mail and I'll add it to the list. It would be
helpful if you could include an address, phone number, web site, hours,
and a list of some items. If you can't find all this information,
please send what you have so I can fill in the blanks.
I'll list all the places shown in the Directory but only the details
that changed.

These are _not_ in the Eastern US section but I happen to know --
The Time Museum in Rockford, Illinois, is gone but many of the
instruments are in the Field Museum in Chicago.
My additions --
Herschell Carrousel Factory Museum, North Tonawanda, New York (near
Buffalo): Operating carrousel with band organ, Children's carousel,
band organ roll punching demonstration, carousel horse carving, static
display of many horses housed in the original Herschell Factory
building.
Genesee Country Village Museum, Mumford, New York (near Rochester):
Small music box in one restored house. Small street organs (new and
old) and occasionally a band organ present for special events. This
is the 3rd largest historical village museum in the country.
Rochester Historical Society: Nice medium sized orchestra box played
for tours.
Rochester Museum and Science Center: 15-20 instruments in the
collection but usually not out on display.
Strong Museum: About 10 instruments in the collection, a few on
display. Small antique carousel with modern band organ operating
in the entrance area. Organ usually played only on request.
Sonnenberg Gardens, Thompson Mansion, Canandaigua, New York (near
Rochester): Large orchestra box on matching table. Porter disk box.
