Punch for Perforating a 65-note Music Roll
By Bob Billings
In a private communication, Bob Taylor raised the issue of 65-note
punch size in relation to tracking errors. Larger punch sizes will be
more likely to cause false notes than smaller ones if the roll doesn't
track well. Any thoughts on how much tracking error should be allowed
for?
I'd like to keep the punch size as large as possible without getting
into problems with mis-tracking.

[ Why does a 6-holes-per-inch player system need a larger hole in the
[ paper than does a 9-holes-per-inch system? The height of the slot
[ in a 6/inch tracker bar is almost the same as in a 9/inch piano (for
[ fast note repetition), so it seems there wouldn't be much difference
[ in the air flow. -- Robbie
