This discussion is interesting as Biotech Research has an ozone
generator, which they call Prozone, that they sell as an air purifier.
It is supposed to eliminate such odors as skunk, urine, pet odors,
fungus, bacteria, formaldehyde, ammonia, cooking odors and many others.
It is also supposed to remove dust, methylene chloride, phenols, PCBs,
humic acid, DIMPs, glycerols, kepones and a whole host of other
inorganic pollutants including carbon monoxide.
It is also supposed to be better than the electrostatic air type of air
purifiers, such as those sold by The Sharper Image, for example stating
that they produce an acid in the air. They claim that, "studies on
ozone show that it has no harmful effects on human tissue." The ozone
produced by the Prozone is "amazing because it removes everything bad,
but, does not harm anything that is good."
Now, does this mean that either our pianos and organs get to breathe
or we do? Since most of us don't live in a totally environmentally
controlled house, what is the solution to keeping both our instruments
and our nasal passages clear at the same time?
Forced air filters are fine for those who have central air and heating.
But my 1917 house isn't a candidate for such a luxury without an
extraordinary budget and great damage to the house itself.

[ Excerpts from http://www.epa.gov/iaq/pubs/ozonegen.html :
[
[ "There is a large body of written material on ozone and the use of
[ ozone indoors. However, much of this material makes claims or draws
[ conclusions without substantiation and sound science. ... "
[
[ "Are Ozone Generators Effective in Controlling Indoor Air Pollution?
[
[ "Available scientific evidence shows that, at concentrations that
[ do not exceed public health standards, ozone has little potential
[ to remove indoor air contaminants ... odor-causing chemicals ...
[ viruses, bacteria, mold, or other biological pollutants. ..."
[
[ In other words, if the ozone concentration is so low that it doesn't
[ affect people, then it doesn't affect anything else. -- Robbie
