In many of the rolls that I encoded and edited in the 1970s, I took
care to make sure that large chords did not release their notes at
exactly the same time, since some pianos would produce an "enmasse
clunk" sound, especially if those notes had long since died away.
It's my understanding that Ampico's note extensions were implemented
by an unthinking machine which would not have considered such a matter
of finesse.
