For sale: 1930 Mason & Hamlin 5' 8" grand; it's _not_ an Ampico, but
contains the Hickman grand piano action in all original condition.
Mahogany case, good original shape. This piano has the A-9 scale
(five wound bichords in tenor, on a separate little "third bridge");
a delightful scale that was used on most of the Model B Masons.
This piano is _very_ rare; I bought it with the intention of
installing an Ampico B player. Info on the Hickman action can be
viewed at http://mmd.foxtail.com/Tech/HickmanAction/index.html
Price $8,500 f.o.b. Haverhill, Mass. The piano is located a block
away from the present Mason & Hamlin factory; come pick it up yourself
and tour this wonderful facility where they are currently making the
Model A, AA, BB and style 50 upright.

[ Dr. Hickman's goals were to (1) reduce the effect of humidity
[ changes on the friction, and (2) reduce the time needed to regulate
[ the action. He succeeded admirably in his goals but his piano
[ action was not adopted for production. We don't know why.
