Conlon Nancarrow Music on National Public Radio
By Terry Bender
In light of the recent extensive discussion about player pianos,
I thought I would call attention to a program I heard on our local NPR
channel this morning. It was part of the Studio 360 series and dealt
with the experimentalist composer Conlon Nancarrow from the 1940's and
50's who composed some pretty wild music with the help of the player
piano. His music could only have been played on a player. Those
interested can find out more about Nancarrow at
http://www.wnyc.org/studio360/show.html
I think this web site will only have this information this week and
then they put on next week's show. I am not sure whether they have an
archive. Kyle Gann has written about Nancarrow and he has a web site.
