Hi all, I remember a discussion a while back about whether the names
on 'Jewel' brand rolls were real or pseudonyms. The name "P.I. Ford"
was mentioned as one of the artists.
For what it's worth, I've just found a couple of references to sheet
music on the Internet; details follow :
By The Light Of The Jungle Moon (1911)
Music by: J.C. Atkinson
Lyrics by: Powell I. Ford
Sweet Savannah Sue (1913)
by: J. Caldwell Atkinson
Words by Powell I. Ford
J. Caldwell Atkinson is, of course, a fairly well-known roll artist,
so it seems that Powell I. Ford is the man responsible for some of the
brilliant Jewel arrangements!
A while back I also asked about "Buck" Johnson, a Vocalstyle artist,
and was directed to a page on the MMD web site that contained absolutely
no information about him. I've found on the Internet an old 1950s LP
entitled "Buck Johnson - The Last Testament of a Great New Orleans
Jazzman" - does anyone know if they are one and the same?
Regards,
