Pneumatic Cloth vs. Pouch Leather
By Bob Moore
Matthew Caulfield had asked about using pneumatic cloth on the finger
pneumatics on the band organ at Seabreeze. My personal experience is
this: I covered the pneumatics on my band organ with pneumatic cloth
which only lasted for a few years.
Thinking I had used cloth from a bad batch, I ordered new cloth and
recovered the pneumatics again. That cloth lasted for about the same
length of time. Next, I used pouch leather and there was no sign of
wear up to the time I sold the organ. It lasted longer than the cloth
and the pneumatics were just as responsive as they were when I used the
cloth.
My organ was not played on a continuous basis like the one at Seabreeze
but I feel that if pouch leather worked better for me then it might be
an option worth considering. I would like to hear from others
concerning this topic. Has anyone else used pouch leather on their
pneumatics and what was the result?
