Thanks, Ian, for the information. I have heard from two others,
Dale Wilson and Doug Mauldin, about "Popcorn," and each note adds
a little more information. It's odd that none of the other 11 tunes
provoked any response, but "Popcorn" did.
From what you and the others say, it appears that the two rolls
I am interested in must have been made later than the mid-1960's
as I had assumed. "Popcorn" clearly hit the public in 1970 or 1971.
Your sheet music copyright and the Musicor Records 1972 copyright
statement on Doug's 45 r.p.m. record confirms Dale's recollection of
its appearance around 1971 as a techno (Moog) piece, performed by
the group Hot Butter. (There's a lot on the web about Hot Butter.)
Gershon Kingsley was also named on the 45 record as composer of
"Popcorn"; so now I am sure that the four nobodies named on the
Valentino web site were not original composers, but arrangers or
adapters of the work of others.
All this will help when I make a fresh attempt to identify the other
eleven tunes.
