Seek Felt for Player Piano Devices
By Barry Dennis

I am restoring a late Steinway Grand Duo-Art. Unfortunately moths
got to much of the felt and I have to replace a good part of it.

On the top deck of the pneumatic stack, as many of you know, there are
long strips of felt on either side of the valves, to presumably act as
dust shields between the top of the stack and the bottom of the piano.

[ The felt also helps to muffle the thumping noise and air noise.

The felt is gray in color and about 3/8 inch thick. I am having
a difficult time finding equivalent replacement felt. Neither Player
Piano Company nor Schaff piano supply have it and I am finding out
that, even in the New York Metropolitan - Long Island area, this kind
of felt is difficult to obtain.

In addition, I am looking for a replacement of the muffler felt which
is in the Duo-Art expression box.

Finally, I would also like to obtain a replacement for the thick pads
of vibration dampening felt (about 2 inches thick) in the four corners
of the electric motor mounts which power the rotary pump. (The motor
is the "standard" Holtzer-Cabot Motor.

I would appreciate it if one or more of you can make a suggestion as
to where I can obtain these kinds of felts.

Thank you for your time.

Barry Dennis
