Seek Honduras Rosewood for Xylophone Beaters
By Don Teach
I am still on the subject of balls for my xylophone. Original Seeburg
xylophones used Honduras Rosewood for the xylophone and the beater
balls. All the quotes for new balls have been for an Asian rosewood.
Honduras Rosewood is what I want to use and now I cannot find a source.
Does anyone know of actual importers or real hardwood dealers outside
of the music industry? I know most of the people in the music industry
and I am coming up blank or with Rosewood that is $35.00 a board foot,
which runs the cost of my balls up double what Asian rosewood would
cost. By the way, the original Seeburg xylophones from Deagan were
made with quarter-sawn Honduras rosewood.
