Dates of Piano Roll Recording Sessions
By Dan Wilson, London
Dr. Gregory Mason asked in 040101 MMDigest:
> Are existent records of the recording sessions for the major piano

> for a particular artist (once again Ossip Gabrilowitsch).
Something of a start has been made on the London Duo-Art recording
dates thanks to the diaries, some of which have survived, of Reginald
Reynolds, the chief editor there. Where these recordings appear
in Aeolian catalogs often gives a clue to the dates of the parallel
New York recordings.
The master of this process of deduction is Denis Hall, who makes it
his business to try and correct the erroneous ideas about piano roll
recordings held by mainstream music critics. Many Duo-Art artists
travelled extensively and are known to have been in New York City or
London only on specific dates.
He is not on email but I (or any UK participant in MMD, from the
Player-Piano Group address list) can provide a mailing address.
