Bob Ryesky, who advertises in the MBSI Bulletin, has the original
patterns for the large Wurlitzer drive gears. The rest are stock
items from Boston Gear, which I got from Motion industries, a local
store in Silicon Valley which I think is a chain.
All the gears are 32 pitch, 14-1/2 degree pressure angle, with
a 3/16-inch face. Letter indications are from top to bottom:
A: Supply spool shaft gear, 52 teeth, hubless; Boston (G180)
B & C: 140 teeth with hub. Get these from Bob Ryesky in Carlisle,
Pennsylvania. (They are expensive. Expect to pay about 400.00 USD
each for these.)
D: 72 teeth with hub; Boston (G183) (Originals even have this Boston
number stamped on them -- exact replacement.)
E: shift cluster assembly, 2 gears, Boston (G176) outer in brass, inner
in steel; pinion is 10-tooth Boston (G-S42), may be Boston (G542).
Best to have someone with experience like Bob Ryesky make this assembly
as the steel gear properly should be cut onto the hub with the pinion.
The outer gear is a stock Boston item.
F: transfer clutch drive 24 teeth with hub: Boston (H3224)
G: transfer clutch drive 48 teeth hubless: Boston (G179)
H: transfer clutch shaft 24 teeth with hub, same as F: Boston (H3224)
I: transfer clutch shaft 48 teeth with hub, same as G: Boston (G179)
I have a few shift cluster castings.
The above gears are for the late style frame with gear drive and a
separate speed regulator. Usually associated with duplex roll frames,
although a number of simplex systems appear at rallies.
For the early style drive, with the friction rewind, the gears are all
stock. These are 24 pitch on the rewind and 32 pitch on the drive.
Gear A: feed spool gear (S2436)
Gear B: rewind pinion (H2418)
Pinion C: 10 tooth -- this is somewhat custom although can be adapted
from stock pinion wire as with Gear E on the shift cluster. I got mine
from Doyle Lane. Doyle also has miscellaneous final castings.
Gear D is (G187) which mates with a 10-tooth pinion C on the end of
the friction wheel. I have a number of the lower friction casting
assemblies in aluminum.
