Mark Kinsler asks about putting a piano on its side to fit into an
elevator. That is a rather common practice. If all exterior parts of
the piano are secured, and the instrument is padded, placing it on the
side will not harm the instrument. When the instrument is placed on
its side, it must be done intelligently so that delicate parts are not
subject to heavy loads.
If it has player components such as an electric motor and pump, they
might have to be removed. Other player parts should be secure enough,
but check everything first to make sure.
Good luck!
