Olympia Musical Box Plays Regina Discs
By Gregory Filardo

In response to Mr. Shahar's response, the drive gear is original (not
changed). The drive gear is identical to the later Regina short bed
plate models which use the cut out steel disc drive. Olympia/Criterion
used this gear from the onset as the discs are punched with bent back
metal protrusions on the underside of the disc, so that they fit into
the drive gear teeth.

This gear was much cheaper to produce than the standard Regina gear
consequently Regina switched to it as well, as a cost cutting measure.
It is interesting to see where people got their ideas (or how some
people stole other peoples ideas!).
