Reversing Induction Motor Rotation

Hi All and Happy Holidays! In discussing reversing rotation of
induction motors, Spencer Chase stated in 031215 MMDigest:

I recently reversed the rotation of a 1/2 horsepower, 120 vac induction
motor I use for power tools. I found an easy way to "finding the
internal connection of the start and run windings" was to measure the
resistance of the windings. The start winding has a higher resistance.
In the case of the 1/2 horsepower motor the resistance of the start
winding was about 10 times the resistance of the run winding. The
start winding metal wire diameter (the actual metal wire not including
the insulation) was also quite a bit thinner than the run winding.
