Ampico B Typical Suction Levels
By Ben McCall

-- non-subscriber, please reply to sender and MMD --

I found information in the MMD Archives concerning the variation
in pump pressure in various pianos, but I was unable to find any
specific pressure levels and nothing concerning Bass and Treble
levels. Could someone give me the range of expected pump pressures
and the recommended treble and base pressure levels?

Thanks!

[ Excerpts from "Ampico Service Manual 1929" are displayed at
 [ http://mmd.foxtail.com/Tech/Ampico/ See "Ampico B Intensity Scales"
[ Normal pump suction is 20 inches WG, 40 inches at 2nd amplification.
[ The suction levels for Treble and Bass are the same.
 [
[ The data of the 1929 Service Manual applies to pianos in like-new
[ condition. If the observed suction levels are significantly
[ different from the published data, then check for excessive friction
[ in the piano action (which greatly affects the setting of the 1st
[ Intensity Adjuster and so the soft playing) and for leaking pouches
[ in the intensity control system. -- Robbie
