I seem to have two discs for the Symphonion 10-5/8" double comb box
and would like to have more. Saturday afternoon a couple from Traverse
City, Michigan, dropped into the shop we have in Rushville, Illinos,
and mentioned they were going to Arizona and California where he gits
rid of his unneeded music boxes! It seems he has antique phonographs
in the blood and inadvertently acquires the occasional phonograph in a
horse trade. I checked for critical defects and made a quick web check
for relative values, and had my reasonable offer accepted.
The Symphonion is in the basic black case with scratched but extravagant
transfers on the top. Naturally a few note weights are missing and the
rest need some tuning, but otherwise I put it right in half an hour.
It was too cheap to have dampers, so the user is advised by the lid
card to play it with the lid closed.
We have not had a music box for 30 years and have missed the little
Monopol with its cheery tunes, so now it's back into looking for discs
and any advice for a new disc box owner.
