Dear Friends at MMD, I noticed the mails concerning Johnny Maddox,
starting out with the mail from Don Teach some days ago, and suddenly
I realized I had some Johnny Maddox records in my collection. I have
of course heard about Johnny Maddox because he was voted the 'No. 1
Juke Artist' in 1954 by (A)MOA, but also because a late friend, Claes
O. Friberg, was a good friend of Johnny Maddox.
I was lucky to find a collection of about 45-48 singles (45 rpm and/or
33-1/3 rpm) with hand-colored covers made by Maddox for C. Friberg.
Also, some of them have written greetings from Johnny M. to Claes
Friberg on the back. A nice collection that could easily have been
lost when Claes O. Friberg died a few years ago.
I have preserved the records in my collection, but I am certainly no
expert on the ragtime piano music. Maybe one day I should try to find
out how complete or incomplete the collection really is. I think the
records have been played once or twice only, and then put on the shelf
as a gift among friends.
Best wishes,
