Source of Ampico Celluloid Governor Slide Plate
By Ferdinand Pointer

Hello MMD - Ferdinand Pointer here in sunny Florida. Bruce Clark
inquired in 031109 MMDigest:

> Does anyone know where I can obtain an Ampico model "A" tempo slide
> plate? This is for an upright piano, and slightly different than
> for a grand. I am in the process of rebuilding mine and discovered
> the original celluloid plate is crumbling.

It seems as though two different questions are asked here. The
article title says name plate, but the article says slide plate.

I believe the problem being addressed is the slide plate, as I have
recently had to replace one in an Amphion, which is the same part in
the Ampico upright governor. These are made by Robert Streicher for
PPCo. who list them in their catalogue. These plates are 4-1/2" long
and 1" wide and the stop bleed hole is a bit further from the end of
the tempo slide cut than on the grand plates.

As far as I know, all of the celluloid tempo plates in these
instruments have split or crumbled and I never rebuild one without
replacing the slide plate.

I hope this helps unscramble the two questions.

[ Thanks, Ferdinand, Bruce Clark confirms your suspicion. I made
[ the wrong assumption when I composed the title for his article.
