Hi all, There's a question that I've been meaning to ask for a while,
and while it hasn't bothered me, it has been a point of curiosity for
me for a while.
In Mr. Herr's and Mr. Petrak's most excellent compilations I learned
the basics about the Audiographic series: most start with "A-xxx",
whereas there are some identified as "Rus-xxx" for particularly ethnic
pieces. The British had the "D-xxx" series, and in addition, the
Americans had the "C-xxx" series for children.
I purchased on eBay a roll annotated "W-802", Henselt's Cradle Song,
played by Godowsky, with listener's notes by Robert T. White.
According to Mr. Herr this should be A-029 (though I can't verify the
listener in A-029). I wanted to actually see the roll in my hands before
commenting, but today on eBay I noticed another roll indicated with the
"W-xxx" numbers and, in addition, another with a "Y" connotation.
Can anyone explain the W and Y listings for Audiographic rolls?

[ The "Catalog of Duo-Art Rolls", by Charles Davis Smith, shows
[ 5740(-4): Berceuse (Cradle Song) -- Godowsky (3/16)
[ A-29: same, annot. by Scholes (ca. 12/27)
[ D-265: same, annot. by White (ca. 3/27)
[ D-681: same, annot. by Scholes (ca. 11/27)
[ Smith doesn't mention "W" & "Y" series Audiographic rolls.
