New 88-Note edition of "Bumble Boogie"
Hello MMD readers, As some of you who are waiting for roll backorders
already know, we ran out of the acclaimed Artcraft release for the
Duo-Art, entitled "Flight of the Bumble Bee/Bumble Boogie", two
arrangements back-to-back, on the same expression player roll. The
master for this selection was rushed to Play-Rite and they are in the
process of duplicating another large Duo-Art quantity for my so-called
"10 year inventory" in the storage building.
However, since about 40% of the customers for this roll appear to be
pedal player owners who don't have a 'reproducing' piano, I decided to
have one production run (18-20 copies) made in the 88-Note Themodist
format. This will also feature the Aeolian/Angelus soft pedal, where
it applies, giving the Pianolist a cue to operate _both_ treble and
bass soft controls together while maintaining the same pedal pressure.
(Naturally, a lever operated electric 'reproducing' piano could handle
this format easily, such as the Welte-Mignon Licensee or the elusive
Artrio-Angelus.)
If you think you might want an 88-note edition of the "Bumble Bee"
roll, please get in touch with us as soon as possible. I have 14 other
masters in California waiting for later duplication, but only to raise
the level of our unprocessed stock in Boothbay, Maine.
Should there be a 'run' on this limited 88-Note edition of "Bumble Bee"
I can, at this time, call the Malones in Turlock and request several
more production series for the future. It could be incorporated into
our catalogue as a permanent offering if there is enough demand.
Let us know if you want this effervescent roll in the standard player
format (with Themodist accent holes for players so equipped).

PS: The Rimsky-Korsakov part of this 2-selection release in my opinion
stands head and shoulders above the erratic "played by Rachmaninoff"
Ampico roll (give me his Victor Record, any day!) and the
"tear-on-the-dotted-line" arrangement by J. Lawrence Cook, of the
'Fifties. The "Bumble Boogie" selection was based on the keyboard
playing of Jack Fina, who was associated with Freddy Martin's
orchestra.
Pianist Fina also performed his "Bumble Boogie" arrangement for
a surreal sequence in Disney's cartoon revue of 1948, "Melody Time".
Martin's orchestra and Jack's keyboard wizardry were combined for the
animated presentation -- well worth experiencing, and on VHS tape,
in our time!
[ The song was orchestrated for Martin's orchestra and Fina by
[ Lou Busch before he became Joe 'Fingers' Carr. -- Robbie
