FS: New Parts for Steinway Duo-Art 'AR' Stack
By Gary Stevenson
In 1996, I worked on a project to restored a Steinway "AR"; this
instrument was made as a reproducer but was totally gutted of its
player parts. The client was able to find many of the parts that had
been orphaned from a Steinway XR. I was able to borrow an 88-note "AR"
stack to use as a patterns to build the pneumatic stack taken from an
"AR" owned by Al Pulis, from the Branson, MO, area.
I tooled up and made five sets of deck boards and parts when I made the
"AR" stack I needed. Out of these sets my client got the first choice,
Bill Singleton of St. Louis got the second.
I have been cleaning the studio and I have located two prime sets of
deck boards and one set of "trial" boards I squirreled away, packaged
in plastic. Having run across them I am offering them for sale.
These include: top, center and bottom deck board (with the proper
AR breaks). These three boards with pouch boards are longer on both
sides than are needed so they can be cut and fitted to the instrument.
All are made in American white poplar.
I also can supply the three sizes of top and bottom pneumatic boards
(the stack side board has the proper 9/16" hole for air evacuation)
and both top and bottom boards have relief cuts at the hinge end.
These are also made in poplar. The maple comb as well as rod guides
can likewise be supplied.
Photos and drawings of this project can be mailed to interested parties
at cost.
