Fats Waller Piano Rolls Played On Pipe Organ
By D. L. Bullock
The Cavaille Coll pipe organ at San Sulpice was the highest evolution
of the classical romantic, orchestrally imitative, pipe organ before
that evolution branched out to form the theater organ -- totally
orchestral, American/British style of organ building development.
The great Fats Waller was quoted as saying about one of his trips to San
Sulpice, "Mr. Widor played the God Box and then I sat down to play the
God Box," referring to Carl Marie Widor, composer of organ symphonies.
The well-known Widor "Toccata" is the fifth movement of an organ
symphony.
