Passing of Harold Ottaway of Joyland Park
By Matthew Caulfield

I just received word from organ lover Nancy Strattan of the death a few
weeks ago (from complications of hip-replacement surgery) of Harold
Ottaway, owner of Joyland Amusement Park, Wichita, Kansas.

Harold was the man responsible, along with the late Jess Gibbs, for
bringing Joyland Louie, the Wurlitzer Mammoth organ, to the park in
1949.

The story of the organ is in the MMD archives (2002.12.29) and in an
issue of the COAA's "Carousel Organ." A nice color picture of the
organ is on this web page: http://www.carousels.com/photoalbum/1202.htm.
