The Empire State Carousel Museum will celebrate the glorious occasion
of its completion with a Grand Opening Festival on Saturday, October
25, 2003. The festivities will be held at the home of this new and
truly unique museum which is located on the grounds of the Holtsville
Ecology Park and Wildlife Preserve in central Suffolk County.
Created over the past twenty years by the volunteer efforts of nearly
1,000 painters, carvers, quilters and woodworkers throughout New York,
this museum you can ride on is a testimonial to the traditions of the
Empire State and a tribute to the talents of its craftspeople.
The Museum will open at 10 AM on Saturday morning. The official opening
ceremony will take place at 11:30 and the carousel will be available for
rides from 12 noon until 6 PM.
All sort of unusual activities are planned: roaming barbershop
quartets, a performance by the Twin Shores Chorus, an official visit
from the Red Hat Ladies, woodcarving demonstrations, a band organ rally
featuring an authentic hurdy-gurdy and much, much more. But, best of
all, is the once-in-a lifetime opportunity to be one of those lucky
folks who can brag that they rode the Empire State Carousel on its
Grand Opening Day.
And, if you have any spare pennies, bring them along. Percy, our
carousel penny-collecting pig, will weigh them in on his antique scale.
