I am trying to pin down the composer of a tune that appears on a
Wurlitzer 180 roll. My friend, Michael Sidoti, recognized the melody
as that of "Wasn't It Nice", as nicely sung on an old 78 record by
Aileen Stanley. He sent me a tape of the recording, so I have the
lyrics.
The catch is this: there are at least two well-known tunes by that
title, one from 1926 by Jackson & Horsley and the other from 1930
by Seymour Simons. The Simons tune fits better with the date of the
Wurlitzer roll, and I have tentatively entered it that way in my
on-line 180 list, but I really don't like to guess this way.
Does any MMD'er happen to have the sheet music or a piano word-roll
that would give the lyrics for either the Jackson/Horsley tune or the
Simons tune? Having the lyrics to either one would rule one in and
one out, thus solving the mystery for me. The Internet (including the
Lester S. Levy sheet music site) was no help in this case.
