Market Value & Cost of Restoration
By Alan Erb

I read with interest and appreciation the comments on MMD (9/11)
relating to the costs of restoration. The points made were well
spoken and true.

The discussion includes some very useful thoughts on dealing with
the concern of restoration costs vs. the value of the restored
instrument. I have no "deal of the day" time to offer, but the way
I read the letter, the restoration proposal was $17000 plus the value
of the unrestored organ, say $7000-$8000, which would be approximately
$25,000 restoration. That's a good deal of time on most anybody's
clock; however, some projects take that long to accomplish properly.
