Are Mechanical Music Instruments "Robots"?
By John Farmer

As an avid reader of Isaac Asimov, who is widely thought of as 'the
father' of robots, I would have to say that mechanical musical
instruments are _not_ robots.

According to Asimov, robots have to follow the three laws of robotics
(which I won't re-iterate here), which indicates that they must have
intelligence and be able to make decisions -- far beyond even the most
sophisticated mechanical instrument, I think!
