[ Translated by Robbie from French: ]
I am in search of information on Jean-Baptiste Jacotel, builder
of organs and automatons, who arrived in Canada in 1820.
In association with Augustus Fay, who arrived a short time later,
Jacotel manufactured in the region of Montreal at least six cylinder-
and keyboard-organs and two with keyboard and pedals. He died of the
cholera in August 1832. He also put on a stage show that presented
a "Panorama mecanique" of automatons.
While navigating the Web in search of information on his origins,
I found a few notes by Francoise Dussour on Husson-Jacotel, builder
of organs and serinettes of the Vosges.
Might the Jacotel who came to Canada be from this family?
Thank you for the attention that you will give to my request.
